Membership & getting started

What is From Queens, With Love?

A community for people who want to have fun in their boro, explore more of Queens and form genuine friendships through local outings and group activities.

Is FQWL membership-based?

Yes. From Queens, With Love is a membership-based community, and membership is free. You'll need to complete an application to join. Individual outings may involve separate costs for food, drinks, tickets, or activities.

What happens after I apply?

A moderator will review your application and approve or deny it based on our community rules and membership criteria. Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.

Do I need to download BFF?

Yes. BFF is where our community connects. You'll need to download the app to access the group chat, RSVP for outings, receive announcements, and stay involved.

Is FQWL a dating group?

No. FQWL is centered on friendship and community. Romantic gestures are not allowed within the group or at FQWL gatherings. Members are free to get to know one another and pursue mutual relationships outside the group, but our shared spaces must remain focused on friendship and respect.

Who is the community for?

The community is multicultural, mixed-gender and intergenerational. It welcomes people who are interested in meaningful connection and spending time in Queens.

Do I need to be from Queens?

You do not need to have been born in Queens. The community centers Queens, so members should be genuinely interested in exploring the boro and respecting its neighborhoods and residents.

Outings & exploring Queens

What kinds of activities will we do?

Activities include brunch, nightlife, creative gatherings, cultural outings, hobby groups, and other experiences built around shared interests in Queens. We also organize walks, wellness activities, and occasional volunteering opportunities.

How is FQWL organized across Queens?

FQWL is organized across five regions: Northwest, Northeast, Central, Southeast and Southwest Queens. Volunteer Connectors help neighbors find local gatherings and build connections. Our online community is on BFF.

Which region should I connect with?

Start with the region where you live, work or spend time, and connect with its Connector. Regions help us organize; they are not separate membership requirements. Members can attend gatherings throughout Queens.

Can I attend gatherings outside my region?

Yes. Members can explore any region and attend gatherings that interest them, subject to the event's RSVP requirements and capacity.

Can I come to an outing alone?

Absolutely. Many activities are designed for people arriving solo. Hosts and connectors will help with introductions, and larger events may break into smaller groups to make conversation easier.

How large are the events?

Event size varies. Many outings are intentionally small to make conversation and connection easier, while some gatherings are larger. Check each event listing for capacity and RSVP requirements.

Do I need to RSVP?

Please RSVP when requested. It helps organizers plan groupings, accessibility, communication and any reservations. If your plans change, update your RSVP or tell the host as soon as you can.

Are events free?

Some events are free and others may involve food, tickets or activity costs. The event listing should explain expected costs before you RSVP. Members generally pay their own expenses unless the event says otherwise.

What about dietary needs and accessibility?

Share relevant needs when the RSVP asks for them. Organizers will communicate known options and barriers, but cannot guarantee that every venue can meet every need. Contact the host privately if you need more information before attending.

Community & participation

Will photos or videos be taken?

Yes. Photos and videos will be taken at each event and may be shared on FQWL's website or social media. If you'd prefer not to be photographed or recorded, please let an organizer know. You can also ask us to remove a photo or video of you from our website or social channels. Members should ask before posting recognizable photos or videos of others.

How do we protect members' privacy?

Our digital community is on BFF. Review your profile and privacy settings before participating. Members may not copy, share or use another member's contact information, messages or personal details without permission.

Can I attend an event or bring a friend who isn't a member?

You must be an approved member to attend regular FQWL outings. Friends who want to attend must also apply and be approved. Exceptions include designated Open House events and public paid events, which will be clearly identified in the event listing.

Can I suggest or lead an activity?

You’re welcome to suggest ideas to Skyy or a Connector. Only Connectors may plan, organize, and lead FQWL activities within the group. However, if you’re attending an event and would like to invite other FQWL members to join you, share the details in the “So...Who’s Down? 👀” channel.

Can I promote my business, event or project?

Share your business, event, creative project or service during Self-Promo Thursday. Disclose your connection and avoid repeated posts or unsolicited sales messages. Ask an administrator about promotions outside that time.

What happens if an event is canceled or changes?

The host will share updates on the BFF event page or in the relevant community room. Members are responsible for checking updates before leaving for an event.
